Introducing our second batch of Yellowbelly Recorded releases; ‘For Folk’s Sake’, a series of albums featuring amazing Lincolnshire folk acts recorded live at the The Joiner’s Arms, Lincoln on October 30th 2022.

Featuring on this album is Turning of the Tide, an amazing medley of talented musicians that wonderfully weave together tight tracks that support extremely powerful lyrical and melodic Lincolnshire-based stories. These guys really gave it their all, and that is very evident by the talent and passion that is felt on this album; a true reflection of proper Lincolnshire folk music.

Turning Of The Tide formed from the breakdown of a mutual band, when the three original members had a pause and gave some thought to simply playing songs, to strip away the full band arrangements and to concentrate on the rhythm and the stories.

The songs came together, written by the individual members, or in combinations from all 3 of lyrics and music. The lineup of mandolin, guitars and vocals played in and around Lincoln. In 2019 founder members Phil Thomson, Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals, Songs and Rob Bacon, Guitar, Percussion and Backing Vocals, were joined by Rob Law-Bregan, harmonica, banjo, vocals, and Micky McNulty, bodhran, cajon, djembe, shakers. More gigs, and then everything came to an abrupt stop. We all know why.

Returning in 2021, with a fabulous set at the Day Of Lincolnshire Folk of rousing singalong songs. More gigs, Phil Thomson solo gigs and rehearsals, new songs being worked in. Rob Bacon songs from a previous band added and in Spring 2022 the lineup expanded with the addition of Jim Bonnor on violin and the now 5 piece TOTT has played the closing set of the Day Of Lincolnshire Folk, with encore and cheers of support, followed by a solid performance at the Thank Folk Festival in Sleaford. Gather round and listen my friends!

In August 2025, Turning of the Tide announced their disbandment, though each of the musicians will be carrying on in other projects. We’re fortunate to have known the band in their time together, and encourage everyone to check out their other projects!
